North Shore access
Hanalei Bridge & Kūhiō Highway
The one-lane Hanalei Bridge is the only road link between Princeville and Hanalei, Wainiha, Hāʻena and Kēʻē. When it closes, the North Shore beyond it is cut off.

Kauaʻi County road conditions: 808-241-1725Why we usually can't tell you if it's open
There is no public live feed for this road. We will only show a status when a named government source has published one, and we record the agency, the link, the time the agency published it and the time we entered it.
Any status we record automatically expires after about 6 hours unless it is renewed against a fresh official report. An old report never lingers here looking current — it reverts to "not automatically available".
The river gage tells you about the river. It does not tell you about the bridge. We never convert one into the other.
Crossing the one-lane bridge
- Yield to vehicles already on the bridge, and to the side that arrived first.
- Take turns: let a group of cars through, then the next side goes.
- Don't stop on the bridge, and don't park on the shoulders near it.
- If water is over the road anywhere, turn around. Never drive through flowing water.
