Swimming and the two towers
Poʻipū Beach appears twice on the State's lifeguarded list — Nukumoi Tower and Poʻipū Tower — both staffed daily 8am to 6pm. A sand bar divides the beach, with a shallower sheltered side that families use and more open water beyond it.
South-facing means summer swell. When a south swell is running, the same beach gets shore break and current. The lifeguards know what that day is doing — ask them.
Wildlife
Monk seals and green sea turtles
Hawaiian monk seals haul out on this beach regularly and are among the most endangered seals in the world. They are federally protected. If one is resting, volunteers usually rope off an area — stay outside it, keep quiet, and do not approach for a photograph.

Parking and facilities
Poʻipū Beach Park has a car park that fills through the middle of the day, restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic pavilions and grass. It is walkable from much of the Poʻipū resort area, and the town of Kōloa is a short drive inland.

Is Poʻipū better in winter?
The south shore generally sees its larger surf in summer and is the calmer side in winter, which is the opposite of the north shore. That is a seasonal pattern, not a forecast for today.
Are there monk seals at Poʻipū Beach?
Hawaiian monk seals regularly haul out on Poʻipū's sand. They are endangered and federally protected; stay well back, follow any roped-off area, and do not approach or disturb them.
